PRINCIPLES OF DENTAL PUBLIC HEALTH AND COMMUNITY DENTISTRY [COMD 421]

The objective of this course is to explore the concepts of dental public health in the light of the oral health problems found in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Priority will be placed on practical approaches to program planning, organization and financing of Saudi dental care, practice management and professional ethics.  The “clinical” component of the course will focus on students developing and implementing a community-based oral health project.

The student should have the basic knowledge on preventing and promoting oral health in a wider society beyond clinical practice on an individual level. There should be an understanding of Dental Public Health and the major oral health problems faced by the community. They should be able to critically analyze Dental Public Health problems and develop practical solutions to protect and promote oral health.
